England & Team GB Gymnast Starting at Stechford!
Children can take advantage of a free Gymnastics session with an England and Team GB athlete at Stechford Leisure Centre this weekend.
Two-time Commonwealth Games athlete Mimi Isabella-Cesar will be bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to pass on to local children through a range of fun, engaging and progression focussed classes.
A Birmingham native, Mimi will bring British Gymnastics-qualified coaches to Stechford in an attempt to inspire the next generation of budding gymnasts in the City. Following the Commonwealth Games last year, there has been an extreme up-take in sports like Gymnastics so Mimi is on hand to pass on her knowledge. She said: “I’m so excited to welcome lots of new faces to my Gymnastics family at Stechford Leisure Centre.
“The classes have been carefully written by myself and will work on body awareness, core stability and coordination – these are all transferable skills that children can take into any sport.
“I myself competed for England and Great Britain in Rhythmic Gymnastics so the programme I’ve created is a bit of a nod to my own journey and I’m hoping will inspire the future gymnasts of Birmingham.”
Mimi’s gymnastics class, M.I.C. Gymnastics, will be based at Stechford Leisure Centre from this month and understands how important having fun is when trying a new sport. She said: “These classes are for children aged four and over but our coaches understand that children develop at different rates and times, so our programme will never push your child too far.
“We’re all about steady progression, and if we can ensure that children enjoy themselves during the class, we’re confident they’ll fall in love with gymnastics like I did.
“Join us between 10am and 2pm this Saturday (6th July) and give your child that first taste of a brilliant new sport.”
Mimi will be bringing down various Team GB and England leotards, medals and memorabilia that children will be able to see and hold on the day.
